More Information:
Bhai Manga was a devoted musician who played an important role in spreading Guru Nanak’s teachings through music, particularly kirtan. He was known for his spiritual connection with the Guru’s hymns (Gurbani) and was one of the select disciples entrusted with sharing Guru Nanak’s message with wider audiences.
During Guru Nanak’s time, music held a powerful place in spiritual practices. Guru Nanak himself composed hymns that were intended to be sung with specific musical measures (raags). Bhai Manga contributed to this tradition by performing these hymns in the prescribed raags, which added a melodic depth to their spiritual impact.
As described by Bhai Gurdas, Bhai Manga’s love for kirtan and devotion to the Guru made him a standout figure among Guru Nanak’s disciples. His work reflected the inclusive and universal spirit of Sikhism, using music to bridge cultural and religious divides.
