KUSAL DAS, BHAI

KUSAL DAS, BHAI (early 19th century), was a minor poet in attendance upon Didar Das, a lineal descendant of Baba Prithi Chand, the eldest son of Guru Ram Das. Kusal Das composed 653 verses in Kabitt and savaiyyd forms, panegyrizing the preceptors of the Mina sect founded by Baba Prithi Chand. Among the preceptors were counted the Gurus Guru Nanak to Guru Arjan as well. Kusal Das completed the panegyric in 1816. Besides, he also wrote three bdrdmdhds and six vdrs, mostly on mythological themes. A manuscript of his compositions was until recently preserved in the to shdkhdnd or store of Takht Harimandar Sahib at Patna Sahib. P.S.P.
