LAMBE

LAMBE, a village 6 km from Chandigarh (^(y`^`N, 76″47`E) has a shrine called Gurdwara Amb Sahib Ji Patshahi 7. The Gurdwara commemorates the visit of Guru Har Rai who came and stayed here in a mango grove belonging to a devotee, Bhai Kakru. A tree believed to be the one under which the Guru sat is still known as Guru ka Amb (Mango) or Kakru ka Amb. The present Gurudwara was raised in 1960 by Sant Ishar Singh in whose memory, too, there is a Gurudwara just outside the village.

The main Gurudwara is a double storey domed structure within an enclosed compound. The hall on the ground floor has the prakash asthan in the centre. There are separate rooms for Guru ka Langar. Another large building near by which belongs to the Gurudwara is the local Khalsa high school. The gurudwara is administered by the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee through a local committee. An annual fair is lield during January/February to celebrate the birth anniversary of Guru Har Rai.
