ARGOUD, BENOIT

ARGOUD, BENOIT

ARGOUD, BENOIT, a Frenchman, who joined Maharaja Ranjit Singh`s infantry in November 1836 as an instructor. He was of a quarrelsome nature and readily picked rows with his colleagues and subordinates. Dismissed from service in April 1837, he proceeded to Afghanistan, but failed to get any employment there. Returning to Peshawar in 1838 and thence proceeding to Calcutta, he applied for repatriation to France. The application being rejected, he, helped by some French merchants, returned to Kabul (1839). Disappointed here again, he returned to Peshawar and took up service in General Court`s brigade. He left service in 1843 and returned to France.
