TOTA MAHITA, BHAI, a devoted Sikh contemporary of Guru Arjan and of Guru Hargobind. During latter`s time, he, along with Bhai Tiloka, came to be known as a soldier, adept in handling musket, sword and javelin. Bhai Tota Mahita and Bhai Tiloka fell fighting in the battle of Amritsar in May 1629. Bhai Gurdas, in one of his stanzas, describes Bhai Tota Mahita as “a man of noble genius, devoted to the Guru as well as to the holy Word.”

Bhai Tota Mahita was a devoted Sikh who lived during the times of Guru Arjan and Guru Hargobind. Known for his exceptional martial skills, he was adept in handling weapons like the musket, sword, and javelin. Alongside Bhai Tiloka, he became a symbol of bravery and dedication to the Sikh cause.
Bhai Tota Mahita’s valor shone brightly during the Battle of Amritsar in May 1629, where he fought courageously under Guru Hargobind’s leadership against the Mughal forces. Unfortunately, he, along with Bhai Tiloka, attained martyrdom in this battle. Bhai Gurdas, in his writings, described Bhai Tota Mahita as “a man of noble genius, devoted to the Guru as well as to the holy Word”.
