Satta Dum, also known simply as Satta, was a prominent figure in Sikh musicology. He was a Rababi, a musician who played the Rabab (a stringed instrument), and served during the time of Guru Arjan, the fifth Sikh Guru. Satta Dum, along with Rai Balwand, co-composed the Ramkali ki Var, a poetic composition included in the Guru Granth Sahib, the holy scripture of Sikhism.
The Ramkali ki Var is written in the Ramkali musical measure and praises the spiritual legacy of the Sikh Gurus. Satta Dum and Rai Balwand were known for their devotion and musical contributions, which enriched the Sikh tradition of Shabad Kirtan (singing of sacred hymns). Their compositions are still sung in Sikh congregations, emphasizing the timeless nature of their work.
