Bhai Tiratha was a devoted devotee of Guru Ram Das, one of the early Sikh Gurus whose teachings laid the foundation for practical devotion and ethical living in Sikhism. According to the records of Bhai Gurdas in Varan XI.17, Bhai Tiratha once approached Guru Ram Das seeking spiritual guidance. The Guru instructed him—and his companions—to shed any semblance of pride and embrace truthfulness in both word and deed. This simple yet profound counsel reflects the core Sikh principles of humility and sincerity, which continue to inspire the faithful.
This episode in Bhai Tiratha’s life not only underscores his dedication to the divine path but also mirrors the broader emphasis in Guru Ram Das’s teachings on the superiority of truth over all other virtues. His example reminds us that spiritual growth begins with the cultivation of inner honesty and the rejection of ego.
